About the Research Centre

The Centre for North Bengal Research and Studies previously working as Research Advisory sub- committee. Focuses on the history of North Bengal from the days of ancient time to the present day. The foundation of Research and studies was laid down on 14/06/2016. Later it was renamed as Center for North Bengal Research and Studies, Baneswar Sarathibala Mahavidyalaya. The broad objective has been to evolve a fresh understanding of the history, culture, economy and politics of this region. We are familiar that the North Bengal region has multi ethnic, multi-lingual and multi cultural characteristics. The British administrators, missionaries travelers and others anthropologically oriented individuals have collected data from this region and written history. This centre, as we hope, will enhance the tempo of the researchers and history-loving people of this region.

History of the Research Centre

The study of the history of North Bengal, its socio-cultural practice joined much importance at recent times in the context of the history of Bengal with the sincere effort of some contemporary scholars. With this aim, the institution have take some important initiatives to accelerate the tempo to study the history and culture of the region. The stepping- stone of the Centre for North Bengal Research and Studies was laid down on 03/07/2020. Dr. Narendra Nath Ray(Teacher-in-Charge) and Dr. Supam Biswas(H.O.D, History Dept.), both played a crucial role in laying the foundation of this research centre. Professor Mahendra Nath Roy Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Alipurduar University, being overwhelmingly impressed with the research activities of the centre, has donated 50,000/- for the better development of the centre to a great extent.

Mission & Vision of the Research Centre

The Centre focuses on the history of North Bengal, with special reference to Cooch Behar. This Centre is an exercise on the colonial intervention, society and culture in changing the life of this region. The foremost aim is to explore the untold or unexcavated facades of this proposed region, extending from pre-colonial, colonial till the present days. Ten research scholars will be permitted to conduct research at the centre with incentive allowances.
